Monkey Mountain

South of Hua Hin is a hill formally known as Khao Takiab. It is the site of a noted temple, whose brilliant white stupa is visible from the beach at the center of the city:


Our taxi takes us to the parking lot/staging area below the temple, with a considerable climb to the top. The temple itself is smaller than it is high, but I like the white marble statue (a break from the usual gold plating).

And of course, the view back towards the city, as you might guess:



Informally, the hill is known as Monkey Mountain. The name is quite apt. Here’s a sample of what goes on around the parking lot.
